This song was written for my friend Marc, as part of an engagement proposal mixtape he gave his girlfriend (who is now his fiance). I was honored that Marc asked me to take part in this project. All songs recorded for the compilation were done so strictly for the proposal. My lyrics were narratively based on stories Marc provided regarding the formation of his relationship. Other artists featured include Bob Nanna, Mike Felumlee, Matt Pryor, Mike Kinsella, Josh Staples, and Travis Morrison.
lyrics
stuttering through scathing streets
beneath a scorching sun
rust-red in the teeth of hours
chew me up until I’m done
Los Angeles is teeming
but in her arms I feel alone
kneel before shared suffering
suddenly it drags us home
oh, the neon glow
of Koreatown 3 a.m.
this curb made an altar
by an ear to lend
inseparable and waking
from the monotone of sleep
colored new in the mark of you
return to grey-locked sheets
Windy City escape dividing
splitting to halves
dial tones through through distance drone
a beacon in the black
oh, in the driving snow
Elk Grove 3 a.m.
blinded in the white of absence
idle inkless pen
wait for the Midway gates
to pull me through the blue
state lines and the drawing bind
destination you
